Why there is no German comment in the guest book?
Simply because we have not yet translated our Internet site into German. Here follow a couple of short quotations of what the German guests wrote in the book.

After 6 years work to renovate this old house (built in 1759) we started in 1998 with only two rooms for "bed and breakfast". It is only from on 2001 that we became "Holiday house" and bought this first guestbook. It took us another 3 years, and many improvements and ameliorations to get the 5 star classification. (Bernard).

What a wonderful place ! Grandparents, children & grandchildren had a great time, pool is the best for ever. Ales & Peter, Elisabeth, Jon, Max & Alfred, Rebecca, Simon, Eric & Hany.

Bob & Donna, Dave & Cyndi, Frank and Beth, all from St. Helena, California USA…
… would like to say “Thank you” to our gracious hosts Bernard and Daniele for their warm and friendly hospitality. The house (and more importantly the beds) were exceedingly comfortable. The three meals that Daniele prepared were delicious as well as a feast for the eye. We are sad that the amazing Bresse chicken is not available in California. We are even sadder that Daniele and Bernard will not fit in our suitcases! Thank you, and “Vive la France”! Saturday 9 July to Thursday 14 July 2011

Sitting here at the table outside, the wind lightly blowing after a brief storm, blue sky pecking through white clouds, amazing Burgundy’s wonderful fields and many moments of perfection. It’s over. This holiday for ever pierced our hearts and will remain a piece of union families for ever. Gone but never forgotten. Thank you “les Hirondelles” for giving our family something to remember always. The Kimberly Family. 21-27 May 2011

What a fantastic week in such a beautiful house. Many thanks to Bernard for making it all so easy! We’ve thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Bisson party. Jersey, London + beyond. 08/07/2010

Bernard, we thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks in this lovely home. Our friends had never been in Burgundy before and they provided a perfect house for us! Kind regards.
Peter & Christine Smedley, 16 July 2010

My wife and I very much enjoyed our escape to Burgundy and staying at les Hirondelles. We were able to relax and enjoy France. Your place is wonderful, we hope to return soon!
Bill & Dave 3 July 2010

We spent a wonderful week in this beautiful house in Chivres. Touring Burgundy and comfortable relaxing around the pool – it couldn’t be better! Thank you so much for your hospitality which we thoroughly enjoyed. We hope that there will be a “next time”.
The Moehring family. 5 June 2010

Bernard, another fantastic holiday at your beautiful home in a wonderful location.
Everything we could dream of and a second visit didn't disappoint. We enjoyed leisurely days in the pool in wonderful weather and had some good days out on the "Route du vin". You are the perfect host. A big thank-you from all the family.
Pauline & Dave 15-29 August 2009
PS Kevin & Béné's daughter (3yrs) took her first few strokes unaided in the pool!

You have a beautiful home in stunning surroundings… We have had a fantastic fortnight with friends & family and the girls especially have gained so much confidence spending up to 5 hours a day in the pool. Great food and wine and a lovely boat trip in Verdun sur le Doubs.
The Green family. Rob, Racena  (Pauline & Dave's daughter!) Megan & Aimee.
PS A new can opener would be useful! (We have bought 2 new ones the 31 August, Bernard)
Facilities for the children, even so young as ours were perfect… the pool & swings would
keep them occupied all summer long. I am sure we will return.

Thank you for a return welcome to "Les Hirondelles". Just as wonderful as my first trip with all the new improvements and extension. Swimming in a nice warm pool was great! Veronica.

A truly lovely memorable holiday. We hope we will return to your lovely home. It is not too distant for me. Grandmother. 29 August 2009

A wonderful weekend!
Edwige & Nathalie 1 June 2009

We came to celebrate a 60th birthday with my family and it was perfect. It is just a wonderful home with so much character – hope we will return. Best regards and thank you;

While sketching the charming landscapes of Chivres, Kan met some friendly and curious cows which were very interested in "beaux arts". Kimma explored flora and fauna.
Hamm made pilgrimage to the Citeaux Abbey. Anne was inspired by the devout atmosphere of Taize ecumenical centre. Raije did relax and read all those books brought from Finland in the peaceful and cosy atmosphere at "Les Hirondelles". Vera & Juka watched every match of European football championship on TV. Ilona (13 years) made her first acquaintance with wine tasting and Maiken enjoyed tennis in Seurre, shopping in Beaune and sunbathing (when ever it was possible). Valtein found a huge sword in the year market in Chivres for only 20 €! Merci beaucoup! Kai. Finland 07-21 June 2008

This was our longest ever vacation and the most perfect. Les Hirondelles: so cosy & confortable. Bernard has thought of everything one could possibly need and is the perfect host, he's always there if you need anything. We loved Beaune, but also made some wonderful trips across the Burgundy countryside.
Here's a partial list of some of the places we enjoyed.
Market:
Beaune on Sat. fabulous.
Louans on Mon. About 40 min. away. 2nd Mon of the month added lots of live animals
(chickens, ducks, turkeys, etc). Even without the animals, it was great!
Wine tasting: (Here Margie, the writer of this comments names seven "Domaines & Chateaux" where they went for wine tasting, which addresses and their comments you can find in the original Guestbook at the residence, Bernard)
Now we get to what we seemed to do the most: eat! We usually went for a nice 2-3 hr. lunch and then we prepared a very light dinner at home. (Here Margie names about ten restaurants in their opinion "All in the excellent range" which you can also find in the Guestbook . Bernard).
Bernard thank you for providing the perfect home for wonderful holidays. We used the grill but not the pizza oven. The laundry facilities were fine. lovely setting & magnificent view. loved hearing the pigeons cooing. We have nothing but positive things to say.
Margie & KJ, Great Falls, VA, USA
Dear Bernard, thank you for giving us a wonderful place to live for 4weeks while we took advantage of all Burgundy had to offer. Your home is warm, many evenings reading in front of the fire – and quiet beautiful the views of the French countryside – I looked forward to getting up, seeing the sun rise over the mist.
Bernard, what more to say after my travel companions. Your warm and lovely home was the perfect setting of what I consider my most relaxing and fun filled holidays in Europe!
Len and Ardis.
Hummelstown, PA, USA. 22 October 2007

Thanks for a great week in Burgundy at "Les Hirondelles". Our group obviously enjoyed our time in your very welcoming and comfortable "home away from home". The garden and view were superb. The cooking facilities were excellent and we made many good meals together. Will always remember our good time at "les Hirondelles"!

Daniele and Bernard,
Thank you for your fabulous reception and for putting your wonderful house at our disposal.
You have really made this a memorable reunion for us.

Bicycling in Burgundy, then "Les Hirondelles" with family from England, Luxembourg and the United States. Heaven ! Thank you, Peter & Sarah 10/9/06

Dear House owner – goodbye Chivres!
House full of kids and adults from southern Finland spent a lovely week here at "The Hirondelles". Absolutely the best thing was swimming – the warm pool water allowed us to take a swim every from now and then, kids spent the whole day swimming. our oldest children, Katainna (6yrs), Kira (5yrs) and Jasper(5yrs) learned to swim here. That we will never forget! Wonderful house, quite place, great kitchen facilities. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Narhinen, Hoahhkivi Pitkaisen, and Engblom family's. Finland 25-06-2006

We spent a beautiful week here in Chivres. The home is very warm and comfortable, and very well equipped too, we cooked great dinners each night. The only significant problem was not to have an Internet connection. For those of us travelling from far it helps to stay connected via email rather than phone. Other than that it was very sympathique! Merci bien.
This comment we got several times, but we had to wait until 2008 to get Internet through satellite. Not bad (but of course we would have preferred an ADSL connection, impossible to get). If you want to know more about our satellite connection, see the page FAQ. (Bernard).
Rebecca & Rob from the USA – 11 from around France. 10-06 / 17-06-2006

Some suggestions:
- The sofas are a little old and the edges hard, which is uncomfortable.
- There was no hot water in de kitchen in the evenings.
- The shower-bath in the bedroom with the stove did not seem to work.
  - We bought new sofas two months later. Our guest was right.
  - We forgot to open a tap: 2 minutes to resolve the problem.
  - Works fine – if you open the water sufficiently (with the green button) Bernard.
Don't get me wrong – we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend here in this wonderful, warm, well-equipped house! I hope you find our comments useful. Cheers,
The Paris (11) Dijon (2) Gang! 26 February 2006
  - In other words, if there is any problem, just tell us while you are there (Bernard).

Thank you so much for providing your lovely house for our use. Hard to think of improvements, but a couple of bikes would be nice. It was a great spot for taking day trips: we saw a lot!
Vancouver SC Canada, 19 Sept. 2005
Most guests who like bicycling prefer to take their own bikes with them. For guests coming from so far away they are easy to rent. We had some bicycles; nobody ever used them… so we got rid of them. But we would be glad to have your opinion! (Bernard).

Dear Bernard, The Robinson family from Australia came in search of a quiet & cosy place to spend Christmas during their European trip. We could not have been happier or cosier and spent a memorable week, capped off with a light snowfall on our last day.
Sophie & Grag. December 28th 2005

To Bernard! Your house is just wonderful and it has been so much better than we expected. The views, the surroundings, the house – everything has been perfect. We thank you for all your help! The bathroom next to the poker room might need some ventilation, it is a bit mouldy. The Jenson family was right. We have installed a funnel on the roof above the bath, + an electric ventilator to resolve the problem completely. (Bernard).
It has been one of our best holidays with friends and family from Australia.
Yours kindly the Jenson family from Denmark. July 1, 2005

"Les Hirondelles" has great charm and character and makes a wonderful vacation location! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!
P.S. It was made even more wonderful to spend our week with some wonderful Danes!
Karen, Stephan, Laura. Liverpool, Australia. July 1, 2005

From a visitor from Australia. The place is fantastic, everything is wonderful, workable and made my vacation easy. The French countryside is spectacular. Bernard is wonderful and helpful. I will be back definitively. Love Lenka Sinay. Liverpool, Australia. 30-6-05

A fantastic place, we have had a wonderful week with 4 family vacation. Bernard helped with arrangements for travel and local shops etc. Christine, Australia. Thursday 30-06-05
P.S. The weather was hot, so we made use of the pool till late in the evening. 28° - 36°!

This is the hard life. How can you expect us to leave. The villa or Chalet is perfect (excuse my ingnorance). The views and the area are lovely. Thoroughly enjoyable time had by all.
Diana, Kristina, Martins, Dane.

The garden and specially the "petangue" area were the places we enjoyed the most and spent most of our time too. Some critique: none of us were able to use Hi-Fi and satellite TV. The instructions were too feeble for technically ungifted people like us.
We have tried to make the instructions easier (not obvious), but the day of your arrival we are always there to show you quietly until you are able to do the same. But if you forgot, do not hesitate a second to ask us to show you again. (Bernard)
Names too difficult to read.  Finland 11-06-05

Great time had by all of us, but the weather has been cold. The house was warm and cosy.

Excellent holiday – the house was perfect for our group, thoroughly enjoyed it.
John & Tina
Plenty of everything and great views.
Herts. England, 24 September 2004

We were 10  people from Sweden tasting wine and visiting the surroundings and cultural places. The only thing we wish had been better was the weather: cool and some rain. The house was wonderful and just perfect for us.
Sten Marthinsson. July 3rd – 10th – 2004

Hello! We had very nice time here. The pool was very nice and cold (:
But since 2005 with solar panels the water reaches quickly the right temperature (Bernard)
This is a big house for us (because we are so small people (:
Thank you for everything here. Bye bye: Janina 14, Annina 10 Lovely house!

A beautiful home (with every imaginable facility) in a perfect location in which to spend a wonderful week amongst family and friends. Pauline and Dave… Thank you.
Au revoir "Les Hirondelles", je suis triste de vous quitter, c'était merveilleux. Odile
Odile speaks French perfectly.
Heaven of a week. JP
It was an enjoyable and peaceful holiday in beautiful countryside having overcome the impediments. This very nice man moved with his wheelchair and is not among us anymore. (Bernard).
Bob and Veronica. Veronica came back in 2009
A lovely place for a lovely holiday. EG
A truly memorable week for my first visit to Burgundy and a delightful home to return each day. "The swallows" certainly made my summer! Martin& Riles
What a lovely week! We all felt instantly at home, beautiful garden – recommend the plums!! Do try the blackcurrant mustard. Have no complaints whatsoever!!
Kenn & Réné. 30 August – 6 September 2003

Thank you for a wonderful holiday. House – pool – view excellent. Bernard helpful and understanding. The children enjoyed the pool as the weather was hot.
The weeks passed for us too quickly. Perhaps we may return in the future.
A lovely lazy week with wonderful weather most of the time and spectacular storms towards the end. The Hobsons & friends. 9th August – 23rd August 2003

A wonderful house in which to have our family with us on our 50th wedding anniversary year. Everyone was appreciative of Bernards help, especially for fixing a ceiling fan, which helped to cool the upper part of the house in this exceptional hot weather.
Many thanks from John & Clave. 9th of August 2003

Scott's birthday party week! What a wonderful house, garden, pool, area. I don't know how you can bear to let it.
Jane & Greg. England. 29.05.03

Dear Bernard! Thanks for creating such a homely environment in which we were able to enjoy our vacation with family and friends. The house has a lot of character and, together with your attention to detail, we felt provided for.
Monique & Gerardo Etienne. 5-14 October 2002

We all squeezed in for a lovely holiday. The best home we have ever rented for an extended family holiday. Well equipped and maintained, lovely garden, pool and view and helpful owner.
Suggestion 1). Musketeer on every bedroom window, as we did suffer from bites.
All the bedroom windows have been equipped with musketeers the year after (Bernard).
Suggestion 2). General map of the area to help with route planning and sightseeing.
Since then our guests have always all the maps of the region at their disposal. (Bernard).
All in all a wonderful 2 weeks break, many thanks.
Val Ryan (On behalf of 8 adults and 8 children). 2 weeks 24-08-2002

We have had a splendid time in Chivres. The children have enjoyed the pool and the adults have enjoyed the local wine. We range in age from nine to eighty-eight years and the house has been comfortable for all eleven of us.
A wonderful holiday and a lovely villa in a good setting!
The Prescott families. 13th – 27th July 2002

A wonderful holiday and a lovely villa in a great setting. pool and barbecue make good outdoor relaxation. Enjoyed the pizzeria in Seurre – might be useful to provide information on local restaurants (able to cater for large families).
The Roebuck/Lester/Mars families. 9th August.

Dear Bernard, the house is fantastic and we cannot say anything bad about it. The pool is lovely and we love the rooms, especially ours, it is big and so are the rest of them. We love the beautiful views and the cats that are always there to greet us in the morning. Our cats got old and left us, since then we have no cats anymore. (Bernard).
Hope to see you soon again. Love from Hannah (12) Ellie (11) Thomas (8)
27th July – 9 August 2002
P.S. You do not need to build anything more for the amusement of the children. It would
spoil the setting. No Hannah, don't worry, we will always take care not to spoil the
                                    setting! (Bernard).

In our many years of family vacations, this has been our most spacious & comfortable living quarters. In addition we are closely enough to Seurre to walk in for morning coffee or dinner. We warn future guests against dining at the Marine restaurant. It is dreadful. But the pizza grill is good. Since then the owner of the Marine Restaurant has changed. Seems to be quite good now (Bernard 2009).
All ten of us (three generations) enjoyed our stay.
Betty Sanford. 13-07-2002

Party of 14. Swimming pool's great. Dole a lovely town. Had a lovely time, shame we didn't have longer! A change of bed linen for two weeks would be nice.
Of course! Shame for us we did not think about that – it was our first fortnight rental. Since then we change all the linen and towels each Saturday. (Bernard)
Foster family, Applegarth family, Adamson family, Shields family.
Darlington Co-Durham, England 22-06-2002

Party of 10 celebrating two 50th birthdays. The house exceeded our expectations, and we had high expectations. It has been a true home from home. We have been very comfortable. We even managed to see the Mont Blanc. We have found it difficult to think of constructive comments as it has been so wonderful.
But a couple of thoughts:
1 A rosemary bush would be nice No idée what that could be…
2 A container to take bottles to the bottle bank Since then: in the garage. We take them away
each Saturday, that is our job..
3 Information of visiting days and times and travelling maps.
Since then our guests find all the local information, which we get from the local tourist
offices in the departments Côte d'Or – Saône et Loire – Jura (Bernard).
 Pat & Drak- Co Dushan
 Jan & Penny – Kent
 Pracy & Nigel – Surrey
 Sue & Nan – Berkshire
Hynne & Des – Kent. 8 June 2002 (Pat & Jan were the birthday people).

Wonderful house for a family get-together. Warm & comfortable with masses of hot water, lovely log fires, kitchen, a delight to cook in. Used barbecue once but weather not good enough to use the pool, terrace & garden. 20-04-2002
We came from Austria, California, Paris, Germany and had a great winter-holiday in your wonderful house! Thanks! Best wishes for 2002!
Ludo, Melinda, Florin & Christian, Denis, Jules, Midura. 2 Jan.2002
PS: Don't change the kitchen!!
To be honest, the kitchen was quite old and poorly equipped, so we told our guests we were conscious of that and planned to put in a complete new kitchen in the beginning of the year.
Other guests before them had some complaints about it, and they were right. That was very nice of them to try to prevent us from doing so. But we did change the kitchen two months later. (Bernard).

Wonderful time, scenery beautiful. Would revisit if kitchen improved. Many thanks,
Julie & Jonathan.
A new kitchen would be wonderful & higher settles, but overall an excellent holiday!
See our comments here above (Bernard).
Kerry & Greets – Doreen & Fred – Charlton family 25-08-2001

Fantastic place, wonderful to have so many bathrooms when you have teenage children.
Only suggestion is anti-scald valves in the shower. We do not know what that is, a problem with the valves for sure. However, all the cocks, tabs and fittings have been changed (obligation to get our 5 stars) (Bernard.)
Pool fantastic at night, and we loved the barbecue!

We had a wonderful time with our family of 9 children between 6 months and 15 years, and 6 adults coming from Germany, Switzerland and England.
Barbara and Hanks, 10 August 2001

Lovely house, top location!
U.K. 14-6-2001

Thank you for a lovely week, the house and garden are beautiful and we have enjoyed a taste of French country life.
A wonderful week, thunderstorms, too much vin de Bourgogne and some very ripe cheese, c'est bon! Sarah Ransome. London
Lovely house and very pleasant countryside. Judith and Bruno, Geneva.
I heartily endorse all my family have written. Merci bien
Margaret, Christchurch, UK 14-06-2001

This is what we wrote in the book when our first guests had left. Dear guests, thank you very much!
But… next guests, please, tell us what you like, but do not hesitate to tell us what you did not like:
- what we could (should) do better
- improve, ameliorate (Bernard).
